Join hands to curb LGBT influence, Zahid tells Muslim groups over Lightyear issue

UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi urged Muslim groups in Malaysia to get together and come up with a counter narrative to curb the spread of “extreme Western influence”, particularly against lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT).

“We must do this immediately and consistently. At the same time, I urge parents to educate their children so that they will not be swayed to support LGBT,” he said, in a Facebook post.

Four days ago, Film Censorship Board (LPF) said that they did not ban animation film Lightyear from being screened in Malaysia but sought minor cuts and “muting” certain dialogues.

The board added that they found the film had elements of promoting homosexual lifestyle and such scenes went against its regulations.

“‘Lightyear’ was approved for screening with fair and relevant cuts recommended, with a P13 parental guidance rating. However, the film distributors refused to oblige.

“The decision not to screen the film was at the discretion of the distributor, The Walt Disney Company (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, not LPF,” Free Malaysia Today reported LPF as saying.

Touching on the matter, Zahid lauded LPF for standing firm on the matter despite the Buzz Lightyear character being a favourite among kids and adults alike.

With modernisation taking place, the Bagan Datuk MP accused the West of trying to ride on the platform to promote extreme lifestyle and thoughts to brainwash young minds.

“This includes promoting LGBT lifestyle. Making matters worse, our neighbouring country Thailand became the first Southeast Asian country to legalise same-sex marriage.

“Parents are getting worried about this and this is why the Government, supported by Muslim NGOs and thinkers, must look at this matter seriously.

“And I believe others religions are also against LGBT lifestyle,” Zahid remarked. – June 21, 2022
