#KerajaanTumbang: When political squabbles supersede national crisis!

WITH the Perikatan Nasional Government seemingly having collapsed, social media users trended #KerajaanTumbang on Twitter this morning and was wondering what lies ahead as the country battles COVID-19 and an economic downturn.

“While we have to applaud Umno for making a stand, they are in the failed Government. All failures written in the media release are part and parcel their doings too.

Rakyat must not forget. “Aspirasi rakyat“? Is it really about the rakyat? Or is it only for show?” asked user ellyWong.

User HaraBeom aptly described the nation’s situation by saying: “The Chaos Chapter: Malaysia #KerajaanTumbang.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Tan Sri Mahiaddin Yassin confirmed an on-going speculation for months by appointing Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob from Umno to become deputy prime minister.

With that, he also promoted Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein of Umno to the rank of senior minister.

Though both are from Umno, it was claimed that the duo were in friendly terms with the prime minister and Perikatan.

Political stalemate

However, Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi pulled the rug under Mahiaddin’s feet hours later by announcing that the party, with the blessings of its supreme council, was retracting support for the premier and called for his resignation.

It is still anybody’s guess on who will emerge victorious from this political impasse as Zahid is facing open revolt from party members opposed to him.

The Parliament is set to be reconvened on July 26 and it would be interesting to note what will be discussed during the sessions, given the latest development.

User #freePalestine said that he knew something was brewing when Mahiaddin suddenly promoted both Ismail Sabri and Hishammuddin out of the blue.

Another netizen called Ahmad made a cheeky note, adding: “100% confident pak menteri dah mula bakar all the important documents that related to “corruption.”

User Weissisthebestgirl note: “So happy yesterday because of something. Wake up this to this. Can we just live peacefully for a while? Do these politicians only think about power? #KerajaanTumbang.” – July 8, 2021.
