Khairy gives Anwar’s unity government a B- rating

FORMER Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has given the Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim-led unity government a “B-” score, saying that only a handful of ministers in the government are performing well.

“Some are doing a good job, but some do not stand out,” he said on “Keluar Sekejap”, a new talk show with former UMNO information chief Shahril Sufian Hamdan.

Without naming the ministers, Khairy said his “B-” rating was fair given that UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi was its deputy prime minister.

The former health minister and the Bagan Datuk MP had been at loggerheads prior to Khairy’s sacking from the party in January.

Khairey had recently taken a swipe at Zahid by calling the latter an “albatross” around Anwar’s neck, alluding to Zahid’s court charges.

Zahid is accused of 47 counts of money laundering and criminal breach of trust involving millions of ringgit from Yayasan Akalbudi and accepting bribes for various projects during his tenure as the home minister in the previous administration.

While Zahid’s appointment had drawn criticism from various quarters, although Anwar had since defended Zahid’s appointment, saying that he could not dismiss the Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman’s importance in the unity government that he leads.

Meanwhile, Shahril had given Anwar’s government an “A-” because it had not made any significant mistakes.

“A lot more could have been done but with a first-time unity government in place, things could have gone south,” said the former UMNO Youth chief, who had been suspended from the party for six months on February this year. – March 7, 2023
