Everything’s coming up flowers

Crockfords, Genting Highland

Luxury is the name of the game when it comes to this hotel, which offers bespoke suites and artistic interior.

One of Genting Highlands’ best-kept secrets is Crockfords, which offers a collection of plush, luxurious suites. Located at Resorts World Genting (RWG), next to the SkyAvenue mall, it is discreet and bespoke, with rooms that are the ultimate in luxury accommodation.

The 140 rooms and suites are not only constructed with the finest of all materials, but also look out onto a stunning natural landscape of rolling hills and the rose tinted clouds of an unparalleled mountain sunrise. Coupled with the most advanced in-room climate control, 24- hour room and butler service, WiFi and car jockey service, Crockfords takes luxury living to another level.

In order to redefine the Crockfords experience, the suites need to elicit the “wow factor” from a guest’s entry into the building. Interior designer Benson Saw, a London-based designer who owns ID firm Viewport Studio or VWBS Ltd in London and Design stream in Kuala Lumpur, was mandated to conceptualise a new take on ultimate luxury, a task which he skillfully rose up to.

As yours truly stepped into the hotel for my weekend stay, I was immediately immersed in the regal British ambience evident throughout the décor as the Crockfords brand hails from an exclusive club of the same name in Mayfair, London. Crockfords Hotel also prides itself on its exemplary service that is apparent throughout the resort with two other hotels, Genting Grand and Maxims, receiving accreditations from the reputable Forbes Travel Guide 2018.

There are two basic floor plans for Crockfords. The “smaller” rooms are 500sqft while the big rooms are 1000sqft. The suites’ themes are: Technogym, which sees a high-end Italian gym system installed in the room; Tatami, which comes with massage chair and a Zen tea ceremony area; and Mahjong, which also comes with massage chair and a state-of-the-art automatic mahjong table. A palette of grey, oyster, rose and blush is used for all the rooms to evoke luxury.

To ensure Crockfords’ position as the crème de la crème of all RWG’s hospitality offerings, Saw’s design team turned to flowers. Not the flowers found in hardy, cheerful nosegays, mind you, but the hothouse flowers of fragile beauty, velvet petals, full-blown blooms and delicate scent.

The hotel lobby

The muted opalescence of the colour palette brings to the fore the bespoke art by Rebecca Louise Law, an installation artist based in East London. Law specialises in artwork made solely from flowers, and her works are all commission-based, meaning that each piece is designed specifically with a venue in mind. Her work has already been on display in The Garden Museum, the Royal Academy and the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Onassis Cultural Centre in Athens and Times Square in New York.

Law’s installation piece at the Crockfords lobby is the first time one of her works is seen in Malaysia and features air-dried flowers which continue to retain their beauty and perfection. The piece contains 60 varieties and over 150,000 flowers, the best preserved flowers the artists could find in the world which perfectly represent the four seasons.

When in their rooms, guests will be further enveloped in luxury, unfolding their experience with signature Simmons pillow top mattress, all feather pillows and duvet cover with 300 thread count of 100% Egyptian cotton bedsheets and linen – a brand that is exclusively made for Crockfords.

Guests are also offered exclusive luxury bathroom toiletries from The White Company, in-room private steam sauna in all suites as well as the most expensive fit-out materials, including Greek Calacatta marble that is exclusive at Crockfords. Considered a luxury stone, Calacatta marble is distinctive because of its thick, bold veining and is also exceptional in that it is only available from one quarry in the world.

The hotel offers all their guests the exclusive privilege access to the 3000sq feet Executive Club that comes with a unique elevated 1,865m view, overlooking the magnificent rainforest and mountains of Genting Highlands. What could possibly be better scenery than this?
