Lifting on EnterSarawak requirement a boost to Sarawak tourism revival

THAT Malaysians who wish to enter Sarawak no longer need to apply through EnterSarawak if they have no history of travelling abroad in the past 14 days certainly augurs well for the state’s domestic tourism industry.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC), the ruling which came into effect from Jan 14 is also applicable to non-Malaysians who have been in the country for more than two weeks.

Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) sees this update as a positive development for the state tourism sector, and today expressed its confidence in the recovery of industry in 2022.

“This update makes travelling into Sarawak even more seamless,” commented Sarawak Tourism Board’s CEO Sharzede Datu Salleh Askor.

“We are confident this move will bode well for the entire state and for Sarawak tourism as we continue to intensify promoting our tourism destinations to the domestic market in 2022.”

On its end, Sharzede said STB will further highlight culture, adventure, nature, food and festivals (or CANFF) which are unique to Sarawak.

Although it has loosen its travel requirements, SDMC noted that it is still mandatory for those entering Sarawak to fill up the e-Health Declaration Form. Individuals must also be fully vaccinated given their vaccination status will be checked at the airport.

Previously, the relaxation of the EnterSarawak procedure only applied to Sarawakians travelling to the state from within Malaysia.

Non-Sarawakian spouses of Sarawakians as well as federal civil servants and private sector employees working in Sarawak were also exempted from filling in the EnterSarawak form.

On the tourism front, STB has lined up a series of events to woo Sarawak’s tourism with responsible tourism being the foundation of tourism activities throughout 2022.

Among the upcoming activities includes the expansion of the homegrown Sia Sitok Sarawak Brand by STB with more interesting travel packages added for visitors to have a 360-degree experience of Sarawak’s Culture, Adventure, Nature, Food and Festival (CANFF) elements. – Jan 17, 2022
