THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is reportedly close to wrapping up its investigation into allegations of vote-buying by PAS.The party’s deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man spoke to The Malaysian Insight, saying the anti-corruption agency has yet to interview PAS leaders on the matter.The MACC launched the investigation after seeing videos of a man distributing cash to some people who had to swear an oath that they would vote for PAS.The agency is reported to have identified about 90 individuals who allegedly received cash in Terengganu to vote for a party in the last 15th General Election (GE15).According to a source from the agency who spoke to Gemilang Daily, the interest of the MACC in the 90 individuals is to help with the investigation regarding the viral video that shows people allegedly waiting in front of a building to receive payment from a political party for voting.The Malay language portal also said a source close to the investigation said that so far, the MACC has managed to track down almost half of the 90 individuals, and they have been called to testify.It said the man in the video who gave cash to the voter has also been called in for questioning.“Now MACC is trying to call more witnesses to help the investigation.“In total, there are about 90 identified recipients (have received cash).“There is a little difficulty in finding them because not all of them live in Terengganu. Many of those involved are outside voters,” the portal said, quoting the source again. — Feb 4, 2023
