THE Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) wishes to update that investigations into the ARM (Arm Holdings PLC) case are actively on-going.
To date, statements have been recorded from 17 witnesses, including officers from the Economy Ministry as well as related agencies such as the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).
MACC has also obtained key documents, including agreements and supporting materials, and is expected to record statements from a further eight witnesses, including individuals currently overseas.
In the course of this investigation, Chai Jin Shern who is also known as James Chai has been identified as an individual required to assist with the inquiry.
On March 4, MACC issued a Notice to locate him.
Subsequently, MACC received a letter from his solicitors dated March 9 stating that James Chai was unable to attend for questioning due to the cost of travel and work commitments.
MACC then issued a reply on March 13 granting an extension for him to attend on March 31 (yesterday); however, he again failed to indicate any intention to do so.
Accordingly, MACC has issued a letter today (April 1) requiring him to attend (for the recording of his statement) within two weeks and has also expressed its willingness to bear the cost of his return flight to Malaysia to assist with the investigation.
Should he continue to fail to attend after being granted two extensions, MACC will consider seeking cooperation through international channels, including INTERPOL or foreign enforcement agencies, to locate him and ensure his attendance.

The MACC wishes to stress that all individuals called upon to assist in investigations are obliged to cooperate with the authorities.
If James Chai maintains that he has committed no wrongdoing, the appropriate course of action is to present himself to MACC to provide a statement rather than issuing explanations in the public domain without appearing before the authorities.
MACC reiterates that nobody is above the law, and that the investigation will proceed in a professional, independent and evidence-based manner. – April 1, 2026
