MACC to investigate RM6.61 bil direct awards under PH

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has moved in to investigate 101 projects that were awarded through direct negotiations under Pakatan Harapan (PH).

In a statement today, MACC said the probe comes after several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) filed memorandums with the agency, after Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Aziz told the Dewan Rakyat yesterday that direct awards amounting to RM6.6 bil had been approved by the PH government.

Zafrul has not revealed the list in his winding up speech on the Temporary Measures for Government Financing Covid-19 Bill 2020 yesterday, or at the time of writing.

But MACC said it would acquire a breakdown of said projects from the Ministry of Finance.

A “thorough analysis” would be conducted, said MACC, to determine if there were any forms of corruption, embezzlement or abuse of power.

Zafrul’s predecessor Lim Guan Eng challenged the figures earlier today at a press conference in Parliament. The Bagan MP has called on Zafrul to make public the list of projects. He added that the figures only made up 1.4% of total government procurement worth RM477 bil during the 22 months of PH rule.
