COVID-19: M’sia breaches 100k threshold, four new clusters

MALAYSIA’s COVID-19 infections surpassed the 100,000 mark today, with the report of an additional 1,581 cases.

In a press statement, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number infections in the country now stands at 100,318.

“As of today, there were 1,085 recoveries, bringing the total number of those who have recovered from the virus to 81,099.

“Unfortunately, two people died, bringing the total number of fatalities to 446,” he said.

The two deaths occurred in Sabah, where one was aged 15 and the other was 61. The latter suffered from pre-existing medical conditions.

Selangor continued to record the highest number of cases today with 491 infections, followed by Kuala Lumpur (379) and Sabah (249).

On related matter, Noor Hisham said the Government had detected four new COVID-19 clusters over the last 24 hours.

The clusters are the Kebun Baru and Sungai Burong (Selangor), the Jalan Tun construction site (Kuala Lumpur) and the Jalan Pandan cluster in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.

“At the same time, six clusters have officially ended, which are the Kasir, Tomher MC, Utama, Rengas, Mampulut and Haven,” he added. – Dec 24, 2020
