Malaysia Airlines extends codeshare with Qatar Airways

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines is offering more seamless one-stop connectivity to several major cities in Europe through the expansion of its codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways, a partner airline in the oneworld alliance.

All codeshare services will be marketed as Malaysia Airlines flights, thus simplifying ticketing to one document issued by the national carrier, it said in a statement today.

Malaysia Airlines already offers fares to Doha, Qatar, via an existing codeshare agreement with Qatar Airways, and effective Jan 27, its passengers will be able to book seats to an additional 12 destinations with one-stop connectivity such as Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich, Vienna, Rome, Madrid, Barcelona, Geneva, Copenhagen, Brussels, Athens and Oslo.

Through the existing codeshare agreement, Malaysia Airlines passengers have been able to book travels to 10 US-based destinations, including Boston, New York and Dallas.

“Through this cooperation, we provide travel options for our outbound travellers as well as inviting more travellers to experience the beauty Malaysia has to offer. We look forward to sharing our Malaysian hospitality further and provide a truly Malaysian experience for our passengers,” group CEO Captain Izham Ismail said.

Qatar Airways passengers can book Malaysia Airlines flights to two additional destinations in Malaysia, Sibu and Alor Setar, as well as two destinations in Indonesia – Medan and Surabaya.

Qatar Airways group chief executive Akbar Al Baker said both airlines have witnessed the significant benefits brought by codeshare cooperation, providing passengers with unrivalled service and seamless connections since 2001.

“The expansion of codeshare cooperation between Qatar Airways and Malaysia Airlines is a natural next step in the strengthening of our close partnership,” he added. – Jan 15, 2020 Bernama
