Malaysia Airlines partners SEGi to firm up aviation industry’s talent pipeline

MALAYSIA Airlines Bhd (MAB) has tied up with SEG International Group Sdn Bhd (SEGi) to develop and strengthen talent pipeline for the aviation industry.

The MAB and SEGi’s collaboration will focus on wide-ranging initiatives including student internship and placement, hosting of industrial visits and co-organising events, development of blended academic agenda through study module and knowledge exchange, joint research activities and product development as well as cross-marketing and promotional activities.

Towards this end, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) was inked between Malaysia Airlines’ group chief marketing and customer experience officer Lau Yin May and SEGi Group of Colleges’ CEO Stella Lau at the MAB Academy in Kelana Jaya on Oct 12.

Through the MoU, all SEGi students can enjoy many benefits from the airline’s digitalised student travel programme – MHexplorer – in the form of special rates of up to 30% flight discounts for all destinations and fare types.

Moreover, the students can also look forward to an additional 10kg of check-in baggage, a complimentary date change across all flight fares, access to Enrich lifestyle privileges and benefits as well as extension of exclusive promos to friends and family via promo codes.

On top of that, Enrich – the airline’s Travel and Lifestyle Loyalty programme – will be rewarding Enrich points on education fees where students pursuing the SEGi-University of Sunderland MBA and BA (Hons) International Tourism and Hospitality Management Programme can earn one Enrich Point for every RM2 spent on their tuition fees.

In addition, the Enrich Points can be utilised for e-voucher redemptions worth up to RM500 to pay for all programme registration fees.

“We are delighted to foster this relationship with SEGi Group to contribute towards improving the marketability of graduates while at the same time increase the competitiveness within the areas of interest,” commented Malaysia Airlines’ Lau Yin May.

“We look forward to also embark on collaborative works that will allow students to explore research and development of Malaysia Airlines’ inflight products and services such as meal service and inflight entertainment while promoting a hands-on learning experience and work on exciting projects with Malaysia Airlines.”

SEGi’s Stella Lau said the partnership with Malaysia Airlines will enable students from its Business, Hospitality & Tourism Faculties to work on real-life projects with Malaysia Airlines, solve real-world problems and immerse in real-time developments of the industry.

“Together with the SEGi group, both companies will complement each other’s business strategies to develop the best talents globally,” she noted. “It provides opportunities for students to learn from industry experts while contributing to their local community and economies.” – Oct 12, 2021
