Malaysia, Turkiye ink deal to strengthen aerospace industry

MALAYSIAN and Turkish officials in the Government and private sectors have inked a deal to promote collective industry and aerospace technology capacity-building between both countries.

A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Turkish Aerospace Industries Inc (TAI) on July 7 (yesterday).

Present during the signing ceremony at the Presidential Complex in Ankara was Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

According to a joint statement issued by MIGHT and the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry (MOSTI), the latter supports the move to strengthen ties between MIGHT, one of its agencies, and TAI, the largest defence and aerospace company in Turkey.

“MOSTI believes that the most important element in ensuring Malaysia’s transformation towards a high-tech nation is strengthening cooperation and coordinating business models to explore new technologies,” said MOSTI minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba, who accompanied the prime minister.

Meanwhile, MIGHT joint chairman Tan Sri Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali said the newfound collaboration would be a catalyst for Malaysia in the production of high-tech products, and reduce dependence on foreign procurement in the field.

TAI has opened an engineering and design office in Cyberjaya, and is committed to training and placing 100 local engineers in the near future. There are currently 20 Malaysian engineers working at the office.

Prior to the signing ceremony, Ismail Sabri visited the TAI’s Turkish Centre for Excellence for design, development and modernisation of aircrafts, aircraft systems, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and satellite displacement subsystems. – July 8, 2022
