Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the administrative measure was taken to ensure the investigation proceeds smoothly without any conflict of interest.
“This step aims to fully allow the authorities to conduct the investigation into the reported allegations. It is also to ensure the investigation process runs smoothly without any conflict of interest,” he said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 25).
Previously, media reports indicated that the MACC had initiated probes into several projects involving the Malaysian Army since 2023.
Sources informed that the investigation focuses on projects executed through open tender procurement as well as procurement under the Army’s Responsibility Centres.
Initial findings revealed 158 projects exceeding RM500,000 and 4,521 projects below that value approved during the period. Several companies were found to repeatedly win high-value contracts, raising suspicions.
An investigation paper has been opened under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009, with three individuals called in to assist.
In a separate development, Navy chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain has been appointed as Acting Chief of the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) with immediate effect, following the mandatory retirement of General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar.
The appointment ensures continuity in top ATM leadership after Nizam ended his service in accordance with existing regulations.
Khaled said the Defence Ministry recorded its highest appreciation and thanks for Nizam’s service, leadership, and contributions throughout his tenure leading the ATM.
“He has shown extremely high commitment in strengthening the readiness and professionalism of the ATM.”
He was formerly the Assistant Chief of Staff for Armed Forces Personnel Services, replacing General Tan Sri Mohammad Ab Rahman. – Dec 27, 2025
