MALAYSIAN regenerative medicine scientist and European Wellness Biomedical Group chairman Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mike Chan has received a lifetime achievement award at the inaugural World Business Forum & Awards 2026 in London.

Dr Chan was presented with the “World’s Outstanding Scientist in Biotechnology, Regenerative Medicine, Longevity, Healthspan & Wellness — Lifetime Achievement Award” at the event, held on Sept 22 at the historic East India Club in St James’s Square.

The gathering, organised alongside the launch of the World Business Chamber (WBC), brought together business leaders, policymakers and institutional representatives for discussions on international trade, investment, geopolitical risks and sustainable growth.

Dr Chan was also among the panellists for a special discussion titled “Navigating Geopolitical Risks and Geoeconomic Challenges: Building Resilience and Strengthening Sustainability”.

Other panellists included UK House of Lords member Baroness Manzila Uddin, WBC International Executive Council chairman and ASEAN Business Club president Tan Sri Dr Munir Majid, MUI Group chairman and CEO Andrew Khoo, and Lai Mei Sim, OBE DL.

Prof Datuk Seri Dr Mike Chan joins international policymakers and business leaders for the special panel discussion, “Navigating Geopolitical Risks and Geoeconomic Challenges: Building Resilience and Strengthening Sustainability,” at the World Business Forum & Awards.

The session was moderated by WBC vice-president and Muslim Trade Forum chairman Sir Iqbal Sacranie.

The discussion examined challenges facing businesses operating in an increasingly fragmented international environment, including geopolitical uncertainty, geoeconomic pressures and the need for stronger institutional and cross-border cooperation.

WBC describes itself as a platform connecting governments, businesses, SMEs, academia and civil society across Asia Pacific, Europe and the Middle East, with a focus on responsible and sustainable business leadership.

Dr Chan’s participation also highlighted the intersection between healthcare innovation and the wider global economy.

The biotechnology and longevity sectors increasingly involve issues beyond clinical science, including international investment, regulation, research collaboration, intellectual property, technology transfer and cross-border healthcare services.

Dr Chan has more than four decades of experience in regenerative medicine and works as an international researcher, author and educator specialising in biotechnology, regenerative and longevity medicine, cellular therapy and healthspan.

He has authored or co-authored more than 180 scientific publications and 60 books, with his work including targeted, organ-specific approaches to regenerative healthcare.

Healthspan, referring to the period of life spent in good health and functional capacity, is also a central element of his work in longevity medicine.

The WBC had initially proposed the award title as “World Outstanding Medical Scientist, Health & Wellness Lifetime Achievement Award”, before the final title was expanded to specifically recognise biotechnology, regenerative medicine, longevity, healthspan and wellness.

The forum brought together a number of Malaysian and international figures, including WBC patron and former Chief Justice of Malaysia Tun Datuk Seri Zaki Tun Azmi, Munir, Tan Sri Francis Yeoh Sock Ping, Andrew Khoo and WBC president Tan Sri Michael Yeoh.

UK figures involved in the programme included Uddin and Sacranie.

Dr Chan also met senior delegates during the gathering, including Francis Yeoh, executive chairman of YTL Corporation. The event included networking and luncheon sessions alongside the formal programme.

The gathering concluded with the inaugural World Business Awards, which recognised individuals and organisations across areas including business leadership, property development, biotechnology, wellness and entrepreneurship.

For Dr Chan, the London event combined recognition for his work in regenerative medicine with an opportunity to participate in discussions involving science, healthcare, business and international cooperation. ‒ Oct 1, 2026
