Malaysia’s daily COVID-19 death toll hits new record

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 7,703 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, another record high, bringing the cumulative total to 587,165.

In a tweet, Health Ministry director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported that 5,777 patients have recovered from the infection, with the total discharged now stands at 501,898.

He noted that out of the total new cases recorded, 7,701 cases were local transmissions. Meanwhile, out of the 7,701 locally transmitted cases, 6,861 of them were locals while 840 were foreigners.

Currently, there are 82,274 active cases, in which 878 patients are still in receiving treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU), with 441 of them in need of ventilator support.

Dr Noor Hisham also announced that 126 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 2,993.

Selangor continues to record the highest number of cases (2,728), followed by Kuala Lumpur (701) and Sarawak (588). – June 2, 2021
