Man caught in video brushing teeth using LRT token; extreme multitasking or just plain dirty?

IF YOU thought you had mastered the art of multitasking during the morning rush, think again.

A video circulating on social media has left Malaysians somewhere between amused, horrified and desperately reaching for the hand sanitiser after a man was seen brushing his teeth with what appears to be an LRT fare token.

Yes, the same blue plastic token commuters use to enter and exit train stations.

The short clip shows the man casually using the token as though it were a toothbrush, prompting viewers to wonder whether he had discovered the world’s cheapest dental accessory or simply decided every second counts during the morning commute.

Perhaps he was trying to save time. After all, mornings can be hectic. Why brush your teeth at home when you can combine your oral hygiene routine with your journey to work?

Efficiency at its finest. The incident has also reignited one uncomfortable thought. Just how many hands, and apparently mouths, have touched the things we handle in public every day?

LRT tokens pass from ticket machines to commuters, through fare gates and back into the system countless times. Most people probably never give them a second thought.

Now, thanks to one viral video, some passengers may never look at the little blue discs the same way again.

Netizen @baganmariiii and his photo comment best sums up this topic:

Of course, there is no indication that such behaviour is common, and one unusual incident should not cause unnecessary alarm. Public transport systems routinely clean and maintain their facilities, while the tokens themselves circulate through automated machines.

Still, the video serves as a humorous reminder that public objects can end up in places they were never intended to be.

Also, the brief video did not provide further context for the scene, such as the identity of the man or the location of the scene.

Perhaps the real lesson is a simple one. Wash your hands after your commute, avoid putting public objects anywhere near your face, and remember that some things are best left unknown. After all, ignorance really is bliss.—July 8, 2026
