MIC expels motor-mouth Puchong div chief Awtar Singh for claiming “democracy is dead” in the party

MIC has expelled with immediate effect its vocal Puchong division head Awtar Singh following several complaints regarding a viral video where the latter has disparaged the party by seriously by accusing that there is no democracy in MIC.

In an expulsion letter dated today (April 20) sighted by FocusM, MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran said the action under Article 61.2 of the MIC Constitution was meted out as the statement made by Awtar “has not only tarnished the good image of the party but has brought the party into disrepute”.

“I find that your actions have breached Article 14.1.4 of the MIC Constitution. As such, after discussing with the MIC deputy president (Datuk Seri M. Saravanan), I hereby find that your actions as stated above are detrimental to MIC’s interest under Article 61.2 of the MIC Constitution and hereby expel you with immediate effect.”

Notwithstanding the above-stated disciplinary action, Vigneswaran said Awtar is entitled to appeal against the decision to expel him to the party’s Central Working Committee (CWC) within 14 days from the date of his expulsion letter.

In his ‘last straw’ video clip uploaded on TikTok earlier today (April 20), Awtar who claimed to be the Selangor MIC information chief has challenged Vigneswaran who has been MIC’s president since 2018 “to open up contest” for the party’s presidency and deputy president post.

“MIC is not owned by you but both of you are running the party as a Sdn Bhd which is very wrong given you tend to change the rules and regulations of the party at your whims and fancy,” asserted Awtar.

“This party belongs to the members … I’ve been a member since the age of 21 and now I’m 60 … you’ve no right to talk that so long as I’m the MIC president, nobody can topple your deputy president.

“If you’re daring enough, then let’s open up the contest at the PWTC (now World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur) for the presidency one shot.” – April 20, 2024
