More firms embracing productivity-linked wage system to help recovery

MORE companies are keen to adopt the Productivity-Linked Wage System (PLWS) due to the recognition given by the International Trade and Industries (MITI) and Human Resources Ministries (MOHR).

“After the official launch of the e-Shared Prosperity Organisation (eSPO) Acknowledgement Certificate on Dec 17, we foresee more businesses adopting PLWS next year.

“The certification, which is recognised by both MITI and MOHR, is expected to catalyse the motivation for companies to adopt the PLWS,” said Malaysia Productivity Corporation director-general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman, in a statement.

On Dec 12, MPC said that businesses that have embraced the PLWS system have shown a median increase in wage and salaries (10%), productivity (15%) and profitability (10%).

So far, MPC added, 49 out of 64 participating companies have already been acknowledged by the former.

The PLWS is a flexible wage system that reflects mutual benefits where incentives are distributed based on the performance and productivity of employers and employees.

Better wage boosts workforce’s morale

Elaborating, Latif said that companies that adopt the PLWS system will see better team effort, healthy working environment and strong sense of belonging to the organisation, among employees.

He added that PLWS will also help businesses recover faster and better navigated when every individual in an organisation move “hand in hand”.

“For that, MPC has developed several programmes for next year to boost awareness among businesses across various sectors towards adopting PLWS and subsequently, being recognised under eSPO Acknowledgement Certificate,” Latif added.

On conditions of receiving the certificate, the MPC official said companies would first have to answer three short questions which covers three components namely bonus, productivity or performance incentives and skills incentives.

“The questions vary according to five main sectors specifically mining and quarrying, manufacturing, services, construction and agriculture,” Latif remarked.
