Mosque committee advised to apologise for ‘washing’ teen like corpse

THE High Court has advised members of the mosque committee involved in “washing” a teenager like a corpse for theft to issue a public apology to the community.

Justice Datuk Abd Halim Aman said that this was one of the two recommendations he had made so that the case would be a lesson to all parties and that this would further clear the air among those who were involved in the matter.

He further suggested that those who recorded the video, which went viral on social media, to apologise as well.

“This is not an order but just a recommendation,” he was reported as saying by online news portal FMT.

Earlier, the court set aside the 10-day jail sentence and RM4,000 fine on 19-year-old Danial Iskandar who stole money from the donation box of the Al Islahiah Kuang Mosque near Rawang.

Halim said that the sentence would be replaced with compulsory community service at the mosque for 120 hours over the period of six months.

Last Monday (Jan 10) a video showing Daniel being “washed like a corpse” had gone viral on social media.

On Thursday (Jan 13) it was reported that the teenager was slapped with a RM4,000 fine and a 10-day jail term by a magistrate’s court.

The punishment was meted out after the accused had pleaded guilty to charges before magistrate Nik Mohd Fadli Anik Azlan. – Jan 17, 2022
