Muhyiddin says no need to worry about the ‘green wave’ in the state elections

FORMER prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin urged voters not to worry about the ‘green wave’ in the upcoming state elections because there will be a green and blue wave instead.Saying that he does not know where the term green wave comes from, he said he wanted to dispel the notion among the public that a Perikatan Nasional (PN) government will be worse than a government run by the ‘Taliban’ in Afghanistan.Muhyiddin’s statement comes after attacks from the ruling Pakatan Harapan (PH)-Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition saying a PN government (state government) will be dominated by the PAS.This is after the Islamist party won 49 seats in the last General Elections (GE15), thus becoming the biggest single political organisation in Malaysia.“There are some concerns that the so-called PAS or PN-led government would be different, some people even say worse than a Taliban government. It (Perikatan administration) would be a fair government,” he said at the K-Pro Convention Professional Malaysia, which carried the theme “Create A Better Malaysia ” today (July 15).He added that PAS was part of the previous PN federal government where issues related to race and religion were not brought up during Cabinet meetings.Recently, PAS created a wave of discontent across Malaysia with statements saying the majority of corrupt people, giving and taking bribes, were non-Malays or that the non-Malays should be grateful that Malaysia granted ICs (identity card) the right to live in the country.PH and BN are harping at the opposition for such remarks, saying the slogan #PNTetapBest is a ploy to help the ‘green wave’ win.PAS started to make inroads in Parliament after its gains in 2018.Riding on PAS’ popularity in the Malay belt, PN dominated all the ballot boxes in Kelantan, Perlis and Terengganu while failing to win only one parliamentary seat in Kedah. – July 15, 2023
