Najib to PAS: Bersatu wants to destroy UMNO, don’t be ignorant!

WITH Barisan Nasional (BN) in a euphoria over their second massive state election win, former UMNO president Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak now trained his guns on their frenemy, PAS.

Taking to Facebook, he criticised Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor for pretending to remain oblivious as to why UMNO was against cooperating with PAS’ Perikatan Nasional partner Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).

“Kedah MB, let me simply things for you. UMNO doesn’t want to work with Bersatu as it is clear that their intention is to eliminate us for good.

“So, please explain to me on how UMNO is to cooperate with a ‘friend’ whose real intention is to destroy us?” he queried.

While UMNO had not criticised their Muakafat Nasional (MN) partner PAS in the Melaka state election, all gloves were off during the Johor polls, where both parties openly berated each other.

The tirade went so badly that both UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man told the press that the MN charter “has been put on a shelf for now”.

Earlier today, Sanusi, who is also PAS election director, stated that the Islamist party never had the intention to shelve the MN charter despite both parties now are at each other’s throats.

However, he added that BN’s successive win would only hasten attempts by UMNO to end their cooperation with PAS.

“PAS never had the intention to end MN although leaders from both parties criticise each other. However, I see BN’s continuous win in the state elections as a sign that they would bury the pact soon,” he was reported as saying by Malaysiakini.

Ridiculous to help “looting” Bersatu

Touching on the matter, Najib said that it was PAS’ insistence on cooperating with Bersatu which had eroded its ties with UMNO.

“Because they love Bersatu so much, both PAS and the former constantly attacked us. That made us wary of the Islamist party as well.

“On a personal note, I’ve never even mentioned PAS during my campaigns in Johor and Melaka. So, what you want us to do now?” the Pekan MP asked.

The former prime minister then reminisced a post sent by a reader on his feed, who aptly explained how ridiculous it was for PAS to pressure UMNO to work with a party bent on destroying them.

“It goes like this. Bersatu ‘stole away’ UMNO’s elected representatives via defections. Then, they wanted the ‘original owners’ to help the ‘looters’ to retain the stolen seats for them.

“Don’t you find this nonsensical? The Zionists in Israel steal Palestinian lands but I don’t remember seeing the former asking their victims to build homes for them, like what PAS is asking us to do for Bersatu,” he retorted. – March 14, 2022.
