Netizens defend Vincent Tan’s presence at Madani Economy launch as PN cybertrooper tries to smear him

A SUPPOSEDLY Perikatan Nasional (PN) keyboard warrior found himself in hot water for insinuating that the presence of tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun at the unveiling of the Madani Economy framework yesterday (July 26) has to do with soliciting some form of favour from the unity government.

“Why is Vincent Tan sitting on the same row with other Cabinet Ministers? Need to look after the gambling towkay?” tweeted Salim Iskandar (@Salim_Iskandar) alongside photo evidence of the Berjaya Group patriarch listening attentively to the speech of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who officiated the event.

Faizal Azhar (@FaizalAzharFACT) was the first to chastise the seemingly cyberytrooper by cautioning that his post “is coated with slander”. “It sounded as if it is an allegation. You can be in hot soup if someone reports you,” cautioned the netizen.

This is when another netizen Ijoyhafizul (@ijoyhafizul) chipped in to clear the air about Tan’s presence at the event.

“Don’t simply blame others, Sir. Tan Sri showed up at a time when the hall was full. Coincidentally, the seat next to (Women, Family and Community Development Minister) YB Nancy (Shukri) was empty. This is when the secretariat ushered Tan Sri to sit there,” revealed the netizen who himself must be present at the event.

To further enlighten Salim, netizen cempaka^sari (@khairiah_umyra) asked if the keyboard warrior understands the meaning of “stakeholder”. “VT (Vincent Tan) is among the legit stakeholders or industry players in our country,” explained cempaka^sari.

On the lighter vein, Asyraf Khalid (@AsyrafKhalid) reckoned that as Tan “has a Tan Sri ranking, he should be deemed a VVIP (very very important person)”.

“Wherever he goes, people will put him in front. He’s rich, a VVIP yet he’s good hearted and generous, hence confirmed people will place him in front”.

But Azli Azimi (@azliazimi) took a swipe at the PN cybertrooper and supporters: “He (Tan) came to request compensation for his RM700 mil losses in the contract cancelled by eighth PM (Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin).”

For the uninitiated, the netizen was referring to the legal suit filed by Tan against the Finance Ministry and fleet management company Spanco over a multi-million-ringgit vehicle fleet concession deal lost by Naza-Berjaya after the consortium had been awarded the rights to it earlier. – July 28, 2023
