New COVID-19 cases finally show signs of slowing down

PEOPLE of Malaysia can breathe a sigh of relief now that the number of new COVID-19 cases nationwide have started to slowly decrease, with hopes that the downward trend continues.

As of Monday (Feb 28) morning, the number of new cases recorded within the past 24 hours stands at 24,466, bringing the country’s total to 3,397,336 since the pandemic began.

From the number of new cases, 246 of them were imported cases.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 22,710 patients have recovered since yesterday (Feb 27), bringing the number to a total of 3,086,270 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

However, the nation’s hospitalisation rate has also reduced to 67.9%, with the intensive care units (ICUs) reaching 60.7% capacity.

Currently, 353 people are being treated in ICUs with a majority of them (193) in need of ventilator support.

There is still a high number fatalities recorded, standing at 40 deaths with 17 patients brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 32,674.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country now stands at 300,692, with 96.1% of them (288,980) are being subjected to home quarantine. – Feb 28, 2022
