New COVID-19 cases in Malaysia remains under the 20,000 mark

WITH the number of new COVID-19 cases within the country maintaining its slow up-and-down decline, it now stands at 17,476 on Saturday (April 2), including 164 imported cases.

This now brings the country’s total to 4,184,191 since the pandemic began.

According to the Health Ministry’s CovidNow website, 17,321 patients have recovered in the last 24 hours, bringing the number to a total of 3,977,403 patients discharged since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

The nation’s hospitalisation rate is also seeing a steady decline compared to last week, coming down to 61.7% utilisation, with the intensive care units (ICUs) at 57.2% capacity.

Currently, 263 people are being treated in ICUs with a majority of them (162) in need of ventilator support.

Thankfully, the number fatalities have also been seeing a steady decline to 30 deaths with five patients brought in dead (BID), bringing the death toll to 35,013.

Meanwhile, the total number of active cases in the country now stands at 206,979, with 97.6% of them (201,924) are being subjected to home quarantine. – April 2, 2022
