New faces emerge with Wan Rosdy, Joe Ghani in UMNO’s VP lineup

PAHANG chief minister Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail emerged as the top contender for the UMNO vice president post, securing the highest number of votes with 116.Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin retained his post and Federal Territories UMNO chairman Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani emerged as another new face in the lineup.Khaled received 104 votes, while newcomer Johari obtained 96 votes.This election also saw two ministers and three deputy ministers win seats in the Supreme Working Council (MKT). The victors included International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.Additionally, Finance Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Deputy Public Works Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad and Deputy Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah were also successful.The three women leaders who broke through the MKT competition were Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsuddin, Datuk Zahida Zarik Khan and Datuk Suraya Yaacob.Meanwhile, UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he is satisfied with the journey of the 2023 UMNO Election, which took place today in 189 divisions across the country.However, Zahid said it was difficult to satisfy all parties considering that there were 160,000 delegates involved in the election this time.He also said all the complaints will be dealt with by the UMNO Election Committee led by Tan Sri Shahrir Abdul Samad.Commenting on the uproar that broke out in several parts during the election process, Zahid said he watched videos of the incidents and discussed with Shahrir whether to cancel or hold a re-election in the location involved, if necessary. — March 19, 2023
