MALAYSIA-BORN comedian and restaurateur Nigel Ng, best known for his viral “Uncle Roger” persona, is set to marry lawyer Sabrina Ahmed in a three-day wedding celebration in Sintra, Portugal, in July 2025.
The couple first met in 2022 when Sabrina attended one of Nigel’s comedy shows.
“He described Nigel as a guy who jokes about rice which didn’t sound that compelling, but after I started watching the show, I realised he was hilarious and, beyond the glare of the orange shirt, actually very cute,” Sabrina recalled the comment from her friend.
Their romance soon blossomed, and Nigel proposed in April 2024 under cherry blossoms in Tokyo. “No matter what country we go to, she always wants to take a detour to a flower field or to see blooming trees in spring or golden trees in fall. I love to see how happy she is when we get there,” he said to Vogue.
The wedding blends cultures, featuring a sangeet honouring Sabrina’s Bengali heritage, a Chinese tea ceremony, and a Western wedding reception.
“We saw ourselves reflected in Portugal’s aesthetic landscape,” Sabrina explained, pointing to the fusion of Chinese, Islamic, and Indian influences.
The celebrations also highlighted Nigel’s culinary background. “Nigel’s career made it necessary to have excellent Asian food at the wedding. Good food is also how he expresses love,” said Sabrina.
Sabrina admits she wasn’t thinking much about dating when she first saw Nigel, and it was due to her family’s health issues. But when she decided to get back on an app, Nigel was one of the first profiles to appear.
“The first thing I felt was how elegant and beautiful she looked. I got the sense quickly we would get along,” Nigel said. —Sept 14, 2025
