No reprieve: Death toll at two-digits; new cases hover around 2k

THE Health Ministry (MOH) has reported 2,340 COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

In a statement today, Health Ministry’s director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 1,910 people have recovered from the infection.

Since the start of the pandemic, Malaysia has now seen 381,813 COVID-19 infections and 358,726 recoveries while recovery rate stood at 94%.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, out of the 2,340 new cases, 2,328 cases were local transmissions. In addition, out of 2,328 locally transmitted cases, 91.8% or 2,136 of them were locals while 192 were foreigners.

He also noted that 11 people have succumbed to the disease in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of fatalities to 1,400.

Meanwhile, Selangor records the highest number of cases with 526 infections, followed by Sarawak (429) and Kelantan (370).

On a related matter, Dr Noor Hisham announced that his ministry has detected 11 new clusters in the country, of which four clusters involving education centres. – April 21, 2021
