“No resignation from BN MPs as seats belong to the party”

UMNO Supreme Working Council Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan repeated what party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said yesterday (May 6), that no Barisan Nasional (BN) MPs will resign from Parliament.Ahmad who is also Deputy Minister of Finance I in the Pakatan Harapan administration said all BN MPs have signed an agreement before becoming candidates for the 15th General Election (GE15) that the contested seat belongs to the party.According to a post on Twitter, he said that claims that any MP from the party would ‘vacate’ the seat are completely untrue.“Yes, it is true that no BN MP wants to vacate the seat. After all, we signed an agreement before becoming a BN candidate that the contested seat belongs to the party.“Then the #UMNO #BN party has the right to lead the direction that we have to agree to. Now, with the #UnityGovernment is the choice,” he said.

On Saturday, Zahid, who is also BN chairman, confirmed that no BN MP will leave the party.According to him, even though there were rumours about 15 BN MPs wanting to leave the unity government, that did not happen.“Not even a single BN MP will vacate their seat to attempt to destabilise and topple the government,” said Zahid. He also stated his inquiries showed that rumours about BN MPs planning to resign their seats to force by-elections were untrue.“I would like to stress here that BN remains committed to its cooperation with the government.“Although I heard (rumours) that some wanted to destabilise the Madani government with 13, then 15 MPs, resigning, the fact is my own enquiries show that not even one will vacate their seat,” he told reporters in Perak. — May 7, 2023
