“IN the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes,” artist Andy Warhol once quipped.
It would appear that Alice Chang has seized upon that mantra and further leveraged it. In case anyone is in the dark, Alice rose to infamy after she took pictures of her kissing pretzel dough at her place of employment – Aunty Annie’s – and posted it online.
She was then fired from several more F&B (food and beverage) establishments, triggering a frenzy on social media platforms with netizens wondering what’s wrong with this young lady.
The fact that her sibling is Adeline who is infamous for trying to scam e-hailing drivers has added even more intrigue to the backdrop of the Chang household.
Well, another chapter has unfolded with Alice having decided to capitalise on her infamy by launching the Alice Chang Academy – purportedly a “Health and Wellness” venture according to the Facebook site.
It is unclear what products or services she is peddling but judging from the photos posted, it would appear that she is lending her “brand” to various F&B outlets. She is also seen posing at club events and being a nightlife socialite.
Before anyone starts laughing, the budding entrepreneur’s Facebook profile reveals she has already amassed 17K followers and 1.6K likes. She also has a manager in one Bryan Wee who will handle enquiries on her behalf.
Alice’s “business” venture was highlighted on the Meanwhile in Malaysia Facebook forum, leading to many comments as to what the world has come to. One equated this with Donald Trump being re-elected to the White House due to high visibility!
Many were, indeed, flummoxed by what Alice has got to offer.
A few commented on the possible courses being offered, with one surmising on how to behave like a “Karen” (slang for unreasonable and demanding ladies).
While another suggested that Alice opens a fashion academy while sarcastically praising her dress sense.
Quite a few netizens quipped that the AI (artificial intelligence)-inspired image used as her profile on the Facebook page may differ from actual person.
All said and done, it does appear that this young lady has learnt how best to monetise her infamy. Fact that there are thousands of followers on her page is also indicative of the times when internet infamy can be turned into a business venture.
