Pandora Papers: Put your money where your mouth is, DAP tells Parti Kuasa Rakyat

WITH newly formed Parti Kuasa Rakyat vowing to champion the poor, an MP urged the former’s pro-tem leadership to state their stand over the Pandora Papers expose which implicated several prominent Malaysian leaders.

“What is your stand on the Pandora Papers? Parking one’s money offshore to evade taxes is no small matter.

“While ordinary Malaysians are suffering income losses due to the pandemic, we have the super-rich parking their monies and assets worth billions in offshore accounts,” Kepong lawmaker Lim Lip Eng said.

On Oct 10, Kamarazaman Yaakob launched the Parti Kuasa Rakyat, which is aimed at championing the rights of the downtrodden.

The left-leaning party led by Kamarazaman, who is also the elder brother of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, would be Barisan Nasional (BN) friendly.

“Because to get free houses for the needy or free education for poor children or free healthcare for those who need it, it will not happen if we are not friendly with the Government of the day, and our party is multi-racial,” he was reported telling Malaysiakini.

Among the local leaders mentioned in the Pandora Papers were former Finance Minister Tun Daim Zainuddin, Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz and former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

On that note, Lim urged Kamarazaman to criticise the elites publicly as the group had taken away funds which could have been used to help needy Malaysians, especially during the COVID-19 crisis.

“Kamarazaman should prove to Malaysians that his detention under preventive law in the past for championing the poor was not in vain.

“Have the courage to call out the Government’s wrongdoings and don’t turn your party into another establishment’s lackey,” he remarked. – Oct 16, 2021
