A SURPRISED mother Welly Chia has revealed that even her 11-year-old son told her that some young adults’ novels such as the Rick Riordan’s series had the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) elements in them.
For this, the Guardian reported that Riordan had in 2017 bagged the Stonewall award for his “exceptional merit in his depiction of LGBTQ teenagers” in his book “The Hammer of Thor”.
Like most parents, Chia only discovered this when she had a discussion with her son after becoming aware of the LGBTQ movement recently.
“Among his own friends, they have also discussed about it,” she said. “At their age, they feel very awkward and very strange,” she told FocusM.
Chia could not believe it when told that in one of the novels that her son has read, it was mentioned that when a man sees another man, he feels butterflies in the stomach.
“My goodness!” she exclaimed. “Another example in the novel “The Hammer of Thor” is a character known as Alex Fierro who has a genderfluid identity. It can just change its gender … do think something is not right here?”
The strange thing, she continued, is that these books are sold in all bookshops including Popular and MPH. “Although they are young adults books, many primary kids who have a good command of English have started reading it without their parents knowing what their children are into,” she lamented.
However, little did she know that early exposure to LGBTQ in schools has already happened in the US. In an Instagram post, Fox News contributor Tomi Lahren clearly shows that young children have watched a performance by a LGBT dancer. There is an ongoing debate about this in the US.
A December 22, 2021 edition of New York Post reported that “militant transgender advocates are imposing their agenda with uncompromising zeal on schoolchildren”.
“Children — as young as five — are being encouraged to disregard their anatomy and choose their gender based on their feelings,” it said.
Like Chia’s son, another parent, Rodney Sivarajah who is familiar with the international school system, said that the LGBT presence has already been felt in Malaysia. “There is no secret about it that teachers from the West are exposing our children to the LGBT lifestyle at a young age,” he noted.
“But the problem is that because we are becoming an increasingly permissive society, this has made it possible for the LGBT not only to exercise their so-called ‘rights’ more openly but to influence others to endorse their lifestyle,” he observed.
While the right to freedom of religion is enshrined in the Federal Constitution, he reckoned that to use the apex law to justify the LGBT lifestyle is too far-fetched. “LGBT is never considered a religion in the first place,” he opined.
When children in some private schools are not taught ethics or critical thinking skills, they become vulnerable to the influences of the LGBT movement. Some young people buy into some scientific theories such as Klinefelter syndrome, arguing that their LGBT inclinations are beyond their control.
However, they fail to acknowledge that the Klinefelter syndrome, for example, occurs in one to two per 1,000 live male births (0.1% to 0.2%) while gender dysphoria prevalence, according to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (fifth edition), accounts for 0.005%-0.014% of the population for biological males and 0.002%-003% for biological females.
Although the chromosomal disorder exists, the quantum is the same as cases of Down’s syndrome which has frequency 0.1%.
Charles, a retired journalist who used to write about information technology (IT) argued that even if LGBTQ is genetic in nature, the percentage would be very small and not as Gallup poll reported that as high as 20% reportedly among Generation Z (Gen-Z) young adults in the US who identify themselves as LGBT.
“Instead, I would say most of it is either psychological or trendy,” he suggested.
Young people in international schools are also not spared. “Some of the teachers especially those from the West are openly endorsing the lifestyle,” said a mother of two who preferred to remain anonymous. – June 2, 2023
