Pertima Terengganu to expand production capacity to meet demand

KUALA TERENGGANU: Canned food products manufacturer Pertima Terengganu Sdn Bhd is expanding its production capacity to 22,000 cans per day to meet customers’ demand.

General manager Syed Mohd Asdi Tuan Ngah said the new capacity represented an increase of more than 100% from the total production before the implementation of the movement control order (MCO) which was 10,000 cans daily.

“Demand for canned food products, especially sardine, has risen tremendously, exceeding 400% during MCO.

“However, we can’t fulfil all the demand as our factory operation has already reached the optimum capacity,” he said after receiving a visit by Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid to the factory yesterday.

Established in 1972 and located in Chendering, the company is a subsidiary of the Terengganu State Economic Development Corporation (PMINT).

Apart from canned sardine, Syed Mohd Asdi said the company also produced eight types of canned food products such as chicken curry, laksa gravy, satay gravy, anchovy sambal, kaya and the much-sought-after sardine spread.

Therefore, he said the company planned to add more machinery to increase its capacity so as to meet the demand in the state and nationwide.

“Our products have been sold in Mydin Hypermarket, Aeon Big and KK Super Mart nationwide but the current supply is insufficient to meet the growing demand.

“We have finalised the list of machinery that we need to add and are only waiting for the approval from the board of directors to move to the next step,” he said.

The company focuses on producing quality products at affordable prices to stay in the market, he added. — May 12, 2020, Bernama
