NEWLY-minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Yaakob urged all Malaysians to cast aside whatever differences they may have with one another and wage war on the “real enemy”, COVID-19.
“With that in mind, I would like to call upon our Opposition members to work with us, by becoming members in the National Recovery Plan (NRP) and the COVID-19 Special Task Force team.
“We must work together to save our family, the Malaysian Family, which cuts across racial and religious differences,” he said, in his inaugural televised address.
Touting his new theme, Ismail Sabri said that he was pushing for the new concept due to its inclusive nature and its connotation on the importance of family ties.
“A family may wed people of different races and religions, but their family values keep the bond strong. You are all like family members to me and we are parts of the same body,” he noted.
Touching on the political quagmire, Ismail Sabri acknowledged that the people were upset about it and he vowed to turn things around for everyone’s benefit.
For starters, he said that his Government would embark on a more comprehensive strategy to combat COVID-19 and rejuvenate the economy, by taking into account stakeholders’ views.
As for the National COVID-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK), Ismail Sabri said that Malaysia has one the fastest vaccination rate in the world but cautioned against resting on the laurels.
“We are dishing out almost 500,000 doses of vaccines in a day and close to achieving the herd immunity soon.
“To accelerate the process, I would like to announce that we have purchased another six million doses of vaccines, scheduled to be delivered next month.
“So, for those who have yet to register for the inoculation, please do so at once. Do think of the plight of our frontliners who are sacrificing so much to contain the pandemic,” the Bera MP stressed. – Aug 22, 2021.
