Pro-PAS Dayangku Intan berates DAP candidate for donning ‘baju kurung’, ‘tudung’ to win Malay votes in KKB by-election

POPULAR 1980s artist and celebrity Dayangku Intan or her real name Tengku Intan Tengku Abdul Hamid has hit out at Pang Sock Tao who is the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate in this Saturday’s (May 11) Kuala Kubu Baharu (KKB) by-election for displaying DAP’s hypocrisy towards Islam.

This comes about as the 31-year-old greenhorn politician was spotted accompanying Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari to attend a Yasin recital ceremony at the home of the late Othman Said who is a local KKB folk.

However, it is believed that the press secretary to Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming has since deleted the post from her Facebook page.

“DAP once issued a statement that if PAS rules Malaysia, the people will be constrained by Islam. The irony today is that DAP is campaigning by wearing a tudung (head cover),” she chastised in a recent TikTok video.

“In the past, you claimed that the country would be doomed if one votes for PAS given the women folks would have to wear loose clothing (dress modestly), cover the aurat and cannot wear shorts but when you campaign, why are you wearing baju kurung or don the tudung?

“You don’t need to do so because you had previously cast fears in the rakyat that Islan bars the freedom of non-Muslims.”

Thankfully, some sensible Muslim netizens came to Pang’s defence by arguing that “it is only appropriate to cover the hair as a mark of respect for the deceased and his family” during a Yasin recital ceremony.

Some also chided Dayangku Intan for capitalising on religion to rally support for the opposition in the KKB by-election. After all, she can easily turn around to say that the DAP candidate “has disrespected Islam by not donning tudung (actually a scarf) instead”.

For curious minds, Dayangku Intan’s participation in politics started with UMNO before she went on to join PKR in 2012 prior to leaving the party after the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition was dissolved in 2015.

Fluent in Mandarin and the Cantonese dialect, the Kuala Lumpur-born singer who had her primary education at SJKC Tsun Jin in Kampung Pandan had contested on the PKR ticket in the Pengerang parliamentary seat in Johor during GE13 but lost. – May 9, 2024
