PSM: Quality foreign education for the elites, substandard system for others

THE unwillingness of right-wing elitists to enroll their children in the public education system shows that they themselves lack faith in it despite singing its praises often.

“The Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders send their children overseas to ensure that their own kin have an edge over 99% of the population.

“This has allowed their children having access to world class education, to perpetuate this small group’s dominance over average Malaysians,” Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) central committee member Sharan Raj told FocusM.

Yesterday. Malaysiakini reported Padang Rengas MP Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz claiming that he was going abroad to enroll his 5-year-old son to study abroad, not for holidays as previously reported.

“I’m going to register my son for school, it’s not a holiday… After registering him I’ll come back.

“I only jokingly told (The Star) that it was a holiday,” he was reported saying.

Hypocritical elites

On that note, Sharan said that the public funded national education system back in the 1970s had done a great job in eradicating illiteracy and raise the society’s IQ level.

However, the BN administration refused to reform the education system in later years, stunting the development of critical thinking and creativity among the populace.

“The ruling elites prefer to maintain an education system which creates a submissive, individualistic and passive society to protect status quo.

“As a result, many Malaysians now lack self-confidence, self-determination, civic mind, common responsibility, humanism or even environmental consciousness,” he stated.

On Nazri’s case, the PSM leader opined that it was no secret that the elites have been sending their own children to private schools and foreign universities to receive better education.

“It’s hypocritical for BN leaders that administered Malaysia for more than 60 years refuse to send their family members to public schools, universities and hospitals,” he remarked. – June 27, 2021.
