Report: Amiruddin is Selangor MB for a second term

SELANGOR Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari has been sworn in for a second term as the Selangor Mentri Besar.

Clad in a black baju Melayu with a songket sampin and tengkolok (headgear), the Sungai Tua assemblyman took his oath of office before Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah at Balairung Seri, Istana Alam Shah today (Aug 21).

Amirudin’s 10-member exco team will be sworn in at the same venue at 2pm today (Aug 21).

The line-up is said to have a Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblyman for the first time under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) rule.

Also present at the swearing-in ceremony and presentation of appointment letter to the menteri besar were Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and Raja Muda of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah.

Amirudin, 43, was sworn in for his first term in 2018 after the 14th General Election (GE14) replacing the then menteri besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, who resigned from his position to assume a position in the federal Cabinet.

Amirudin’s reappointment puts an end to speculation over the menteri besar’s post after the Aug 12 state election, which was won by PH-BN.

Amiruddin, who is also PKR vice president, first came into the limelight in 2008 when he won the then Batu Caves state seat, which he retained in 2013.

The constituency was renamed Sungai Tua after the delineation exercise prior to the 2018 general election.

In the recent Selangor state elections, the PH-BN alliance won 34 seats while Perikatan Nasional (PN) took 22 seats. – Aug 21, 2023
