Report: Melaka DAP chief quits, takes responsibility for party’s losses

MELAKA DAP chief Tey Kok Kiew announced his resignation following the drubbing his party suffered in the Melaka state election yesterday.

He made the decision after DAP only won four seats from the eight contested. However, Tey will remain as an ordinary member of the party.

“Not only did we fail to form a new state government, but the eight seats we won in the 2018 general election has been reduced to four.

“This is my personal decision. I would like to apologise to DAP members, Pakatan Harapan allies and our supporters for failing to achieve our target.

“As the state party chief, I must bear responsibility for the results. I hereby announce my resignation as state party chief with immediate effect,” Malaysiakini reported him as saying.

In the polls yesterday, Pakatan only won five seats, with four being taken by DAP and one won by Parti Amanah Negara.

Tey himself lost the race for Bemban state seat, in a five-way battle. – Nov 21, 2021.
