NESCAFÉ Classic Kopi Kedah is no ordinary coffee from Nestlé (M) Bhd for it is Malaysia’s first ever 100% home-grown coffee.
The coffee beans used in the product which has hit the local market since Dec 1 are grown with respect and selected with utmost care under the NESCAFÉ Grown Respectfully Programme, a sustainable coffee farming initiative launched last year in Kedah.
The NESCAFÉ Grown Respectfully Programme – a collaboration with Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA), Kedah State Department of Agriculture (KSDA), Kedah Economic Development Authority (KEDA), Pertubuhan Kami Anak FELDA (KAF) and the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (MARDI) – strives to revive the local coffee sector in a sustainable manner, for the sake of both farmers and the planet.
This programme comes with technical assistance and support to the farmers with a view towards improving their livelihoods and quality of life. In addition, it also exposes farmers to the latest sustainable agricultural technics, thus ensuring higher awareness towards higher care and attention to preserve the environment and the ecosystem.
The NESCAFÉ Grown Respectfully Programme has been receiving good response from local farmers. To-date, it has seen the participation of more than 100 farmers with cultivation of close to 70,000 plantlets.
“The new coffee seedlings provided by Nestlé are identical to the mother plant. With this, the coffee beans harvested from my farm are expected to increase significantly” said Kedah farmer Romlah Hamid.
Another farmer Che Nai Hassan shared that he is thankful to have received wedge grafting technique and rejuvenation of old coffee trees method from Nestlé which has increased the potential of producing quality fruits while providing lucrative income.
Prior to this, Nestlé have been supporting rural communities in Malaysia for years by engaging in chili and rice farms across several states.

The NESCAFÉ Classic Kopi Kedah offers Malaysian coffee lovers a truly authentic local coffee experience – coffee beans are roasted to perfection and ground to a fine coffee powder, delivering a signature aroma and taste of NESCAFÉ Classic.
Further paying homage to the 100% home-grown product, the all-new NESCAFÉ Classic Kopi Kedah is packaged in a printed traditional Malaysian batik aluminum collectible tin can, bringing to life local elements.
“While this is indeed a significant milestone, this is only the beginning,” enthused Nestle’s business executive officer (beverages business unit) Otham Chraibi.
