NEWLY minted Puteri UMNO information chief Nooryana Najwa Najib has joined the party’s Youth chief Datuk Muhamad Akmal Saleh in the tuition centre ownership polemic by stressing that issues concerning Bumiputera economic interests and participation are not trivial matters.
Earlier, her male party colleague has cynically “congratulated” the Madani government on the decision by the Education Ministry (MOE) to withdraw the at least 30% Bumiputera equity for certain private educational institutions (IPS) held through private limited companies a.k.a. Sdn Bhd.
“We’re busy breaking up while their work continues. Congratulations, Madani!” jibed the self-proclaimed staunch defender of race and religion on his Facebook page.
In order not to make their opposition to scrapping of the protection policy look obvious, the rightist duo has harped on the contradicting MOE and MITI (Investment, Trade and Industry Ministry) statements with the former officially abolishing a minimum 30% Bumiputera equity ownership requirement.
“MOE must urgently rectify the record by clarifying why MITI was linked to the coordination of the 30% Bumiputera equity holding requirement for IPS given that MITI has asserted it was not involved in determining such policy,” penned the daughter of disgraced former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak in a FB post.
Inaccurate statements not only cause confusion but can also create the perception that MITI and its leadership endorsed a decision that actually falls outside their jurisdiction.
MOE must come forward to provide a sincere and transparent explanation while taking responsibility for the confusion that has arisen.

Drawing a parallel, Nooryana was echoing the sarcasm expressed by the fiery Akmal in a more diplomatic tone.
“MOE claims to have discussed the matter with MITI. MITI states it is unaware of the issue. So, who is lying?” mocked the Merlimau state assemblyman in a separate FB post.
Aside from MITI having clarified that the 30% Bumiputera equity matter fall under the purview of the Economic Planning Unit (EPU), one can wonder if there the confusion arose given the strained ties between Pakatan Harapan (PH) and the Barisan Nasional (BN) in recent times.
To re-cap, MOE is helmed by a PKR minister in Fadhlina Sidek while MITI is administered by UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Johari Ghani.
Brushing aside political noises, the non-Bumiputera fraternity generally welcomed the news but not before snubbing a seemingly rightist self-proclaimed teacher Cikgu Izzat Johari who echoed Akmal’s cynicism of congratulating and ensuring that “Malay and Bumiputera quotas remain open and eventually ‘abolished’👍”.
“If you were running a business and the government asked you to give away a 30% free share to someone else, would you consider that as fair?” fumed a commenter at the self-proclaimed “next generation educator”.
“As a human being, wouldn’t you question why certain quarters get things for free? If even a teacher cannot think logically or rationally – but only to view things solely through a political lens – then we’re truly in a sorry state.”
Hash-tagging #skimcepatkaya (#GetRichQuickScheme), another chided the rightist teacher that one deserves to own 100% equity for running one’s own business.
“Where’s the logic when someone else runs their business, they ‘ve to give you 30%? You really shouldn’t be looking for such an easy ride – especially when you’re a teacher yourself.”
