Sarawak govt offers RM100,000 to families of Long Lellang helicopter crash victims

THE Sarawak government has approved RM100,000 in financial assistance for each family of the personnel who lost their lives in last Tuesday’s helicopter crash near Long Lellang.

Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the assistance would also extend to the victims’ school-going children, with their education expenses to be fully covered.

He said the costs would be channelled and managed through Yayasan Sarawak.

According to Abang Johari, the aid reflects the state government’s appreciation for the sacrifices made by the personnel while carrying out their duties to provide medical services to communities in remote areas.

“The Sarawak Government extends its condolences and deepest sympathies to all family members and next-of-kin of the victims over the loss of their loved ones,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.

He also expressed hope that the victims’ families would be given the strength and resilience needed to endure the difficult period following their loss.—Sept 9, 2026
