BACHOK: The 10 dialysis centres in the country registered under the Cooperative Commission of Malaysia (SKM) recorded a revenue of RM3.09 million last year.
Executive chairman Datuk Nordin Salleh said the revenue was derived from dialysis services at the 10 centres including in Johor, Penang, Selangor, Sarawak, Kedah, Melaka and two in Kelantan.
“This is our initiative considering that dialysis centre (treatment) is one of the important needs of kidney patients particularly those who have to undergo dialysis treatment for their whole life,” he said to reporters after a making a working visit at Koperasi Amal Medik Malaysia Bhd, Beris Kubur Besar, here, today (Jan 19).
Nordin said a majority of the people today are hindered by the increasing cost of living especially those among the Bottom 40% (B40) household income group.
“It would burden them further if they are in the B40 group and are patients who require dialysis treatment as the cost are very high for each treatment. We hope the development of these centres under SKM would at least help in expanding the services to those in need,” he said.
Nordin said Koperasi Amal Medik received a grant from SKN totalling RM150,000 last year.
“This assistance is to finance the purchase of two dialysis machines, as well as cost of renovating the building to provide comfort and accommodate the dialysis patients who come for treatment.”
He also said SKM would always provide support accordingly for such efforts and hoped the dialysis services offered are able to lighten the burden of the low-income group. – Jan 19, 2020, Bernama
