“So we can breach SOP?”: Netizens mock PM’s defence of Hishammuddin’s offence

IRATE over Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s defence of Senior Minister (Defence) Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein’s COVID-19 SOP breach, netizens took to social media to berate the former.

“Kalau bukan jenayah buat per kompaun…?” queried user Mus Rad.

(If it’s not a crime, then why the compound?)

Echoing his sentiments, user Daten Markah added:

(So we can breach SOP right? No sin or crime involved here)

Netizen Khairul Fiezan retorted:

(If it is not a crime, then why should we pay thousands of ringgit in compounds?)

Yesterday, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin instructed his ministry to slap three senior Barisan Nasional (BN) leaders with compounds after they were found violating physical distancing rules at a MIC event in Kota Iskandar, Johor.

The leaders found violating COVID-19 SOP were Hishammuddin, MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran and Johor BN chairperson Datuk Hasni Mohammad.

“I have instructed Health Ministry officers to issue compounds to Hishammuddin, Hasni, Vigneswaran, key leaders present and the event organisers.

“The Health Ministry will continue to monitor SOPs in conjunction with the Johor state elections,” the Rembau MP was reported as saying via a tweet.

Earlier today, Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh urged Hishammuddin to resign for setting a bad example, given that he is the chair of the COVID-19 Quartet Ministers’ Meeting which decides on SOPs.

However, Astro Awani reported the Prime Minister as saying that Hishammuddin need not resign as SOP breach was not a crime.

“A breach in SOP is not a crime. The Health Ministry had already issued a compound. If everyone who got compounded must resign, then we won’t have anyone to do the work,” Ismail Sabri was reported as saying today.

Want to break the law? Become a minister!

Unimpressed with the UMNO vice president’s defence of his party mate, user Pitpit Mai asked whether Malaysia lacked leaders of high calibre who could steer the country forward.

(Don’t we have better leaders to lead Malaysia? The country is going nuts)

On that note, user Mat Dafi replied with a jest saying:

(I agree with the prime minister. The people are just jealous. If you want to breach SOP, study hard and become a minister next time) – Feb 14, 2022
