Tackling digital growth challenges and cybersecurity in modern workplace

THE lack of productivity at workplace caused by the lack of infrastructure and systems had severely impeded business progress and expansion.

According to estimates from consulting firms, over 77% of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Malaysia still remain stagnant in basic digitalisation despite the emerging need of digitalised workforce in today’s era.

Back in 2020, Siemens Malaysia Sdn Bhd had similarly found that over half of the SMEs are not adequately equipped for the new norm of remote working due to challenges in infrastructure and systems.

Challenges in productivity aside, the new era of digital workforce had also highlighted the need for advanced cybersecurity measures.

Recently listed in the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), cybersecurity has emerged as a contributing factor to the nation’s slow growth in the digital economy, with 43% of data loss attributed to the lack of cybersecurity training for employees.

“Due to the COVID-19 crisis, organisations all around the world were forced to reconsider many aspects of managing both the workforce and workplace,” SRKK Consulting Sdn Bhd (SRKK) chief strategy officer Alex Lam pointed out.

He said this during the recently-concluded two-day TRANSFORM 2022 virtual digital transformation conference which saw the attendance of over 500 key medium to larger enterprises from Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines including Microsoft, HP Inc., Kaseya, DocuSign and Crayon.

“With a global digital change under way, companies also need to evaluate the resulting risks and opportunities.

“Ultimately, we are aiming to play a bigger role in building an ecosystem to support digitalisation of businesses and prepare the country towards economic recovery next year,” Lam added.

During the event,  management of workplace was identified as one of the stumbling blocks for productivity.

Maintaining remote workers’ motivation levels and productivity has been a hot topic and a challenge for multinational companies since the start of COVID-19.

Through the use of cutting-edge digital solutions catered to the modern workplace, business owners are able to monitor assets, automate common IT processes and auto-remediate incidents while swiftly resolving issues remotely.

This adoption translates into cost-effective and time-saving process, hence ensuring productivity in the workplace. – Nov 14, 2021
