Tommy Thomas on Najib’s lawsuit: “Bring it on, sir!”

UNWAVERING over backlash from powerful individuals, former Attorney General Tan Sri Tommy Thomas has defended himself against former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s letter of demand, who was seeking a public apology for allegedly defaming him in his recently launched memoir.

“Our client denies all material allegations in your letter. Furthermore, our client denies that he has committed the tort of defamation against your client, as alleged or at all.

“We have instructions to accept service of process. All our client’s rights are reserved,” noted a reply dated Feb 4 by Tommy Thomas Advocates and Solicitors to Najib’s lawyer, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafee Abdullah.

On Feb 2, Najib sent a letter of demand to Thomas, seeking an apology and RM10 mil in damages over allegations made against him in his book entitled My Story: Justice in the Wilderness.

Najib had given Thomas until Feb 5 to respond or risk having legal action taken against the latter.

In addition, Najib also called Thomas to make public retraction of the alleged defamatory statement written on Chapter 42 under the title “Altantuya”.

In the chapter, Najib said that Thomas had made several references linking the former to the murder of Mongolian translator Altantayu Shaarribuu, claiming it was motivated by mala fide and sensationalism.

To date, 134 police reported have been filed against Thomas over his book. – Feb 8, 2021.
