A TOTAL of 125,000 administrative, clerical and finance assistants in Grade 1 will be upgraded to Grade 5 starting January next year.
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the government found there was a need to improve the standing of this group of civil servants, which is still considered to be low despite the implementation of the Sistem Saraan Perkhidmatan Awam (SSPA).
“Although there have been salary increases under the SSPA, there is still a need to ensure that this very low category is elevated,” he said.
He added that to improve career progression opportunities, the Public Service Department has been asked to establish a clearer promotion pathway for the group.
Anwar added that Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah has been made earlier for 5.2 mil recipients, not forgetting Bantuan Khas Kewangan to civil servants, pensioners and veterans, in addition to more than 70,000 imams, bilals, mosque caretakers, noja, marbut, as well as KAFA and takmir teachers nationwide.
“I also announced the expansion of the FLYsiswa airfare subsidy, aimed at helping more than 50,000 university students return to their hometowns,” said Anwar.
Several measures to control the prices of goods have also been strengthened, particularly through the Jualan Rahmah MADANI initiative. —Mar 9, 2026
