TOW TRUCK services across Malaysia are expected to face a three‑day disruption beginning today as operators go on strike to demand diesel subsidies.
According to some reports, operators are striking to protest against the lack of diesel subsidies for tow trucks and to urge the government to include them in the Subsidised Diesel Control System (SKDS) 2.0.
According to Drive Safe and Fast (DSF), many operators have already begun boycotting insurance jobs. However, Allianz Road Warriors will be the only tow service running.
In its report, DSF mentions that tow truck drivers are saying that insurance company rates (typically RM80–RM120 per job) no longer cover the cost of fuel, especially as diesel prices have surged to approximately RM6.02 per litre.
On the other hand, the Association of Muslim General Takaful Agents (Perwatam) has urged the government to urgently improve the subsidy mechanism to prevent the collapse of the industry.
Perwatam president Datuk Khairi Anuar Ahmad, in a statement, said more realistic policy support is urgently needed to ensure the tow truck industry continues to operate.
“Perwatam emphasises that immediate action without compromise must be implemented by all parties,” he said.
“Any further delay is unacceptable and will only worsen the situation, as well as undermine public confidence in the insurance and takaful protection system in Malaysia,” Khairi added.
Khairi stressed that such immediate action is needed to maintain public confidence in Malaysia’s insurance and takaful system.
He also called on insurance and takaful firms to adjust payment rates for tow operators, noting current charges fail to reflect actual costs, leading to delays, service disruptions, and safety risks for motorists.
Meanwhile, Zurich Takaful issued a notice warning that the Klang Valley will be most affected, though other states may also experience delays.
The company said its internal towing operations will be extended to assist customers, while third‑party services can be arranged with reimbursement claims subject to terms. —Apr 12, 2026
