AMID the ongoing controversy surrounding Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and her book “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey”, the DAP leader recently took to social media to announce that her book is going for its 19th reprint.
“My publisher has informed me that ‘Becoming Hannah’ is now going for its 19th reprint,” she wrote in a brief Facebook post, which garnered over 1,300 reactions and more than 200 comments at time of writing.
For context, 182 police reports had been lodged against the Segambut MP in connection to her book, which was first released over a decade ago.
The police reports were lodged after several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) called on the Home Ministry to ban the book, claiming it poses a potential threat to national security.
Netizens took to the comments section to offer their congratulations, saying the backlash had in fact increased the book’s visibility and popularity, compelling more people to pick up the book out of curiosity.
Meanwhile, some netizens urged her to turn a deaf ear on critics and told her to focus on her responsibilities as an MP instead.
Several netizens who had read “Becoming Hannah: A Personal Journey” also offered their two cents’ worth.
Others, meanwhile, wondered what the fuss about the book was about and voiced their intention to purchase the book.
A number of netizens also wanted to know if the book would soon be translated into other languages, namely Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin. – Jan 10, 2025
