Two GLC officers arrested for allegedly receiving RM800k bribe

A couple of government-linked company (GLC) managers have been arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for allegedly receiving more than RM800,000 in bribes over a broadband contract.

The contract is said to be worth “millions”, MACC said in a statement today. According to the anti-graft agency, the offence was committed between 2012 and 2016 around a few premises in the Klang Valley.

The two suspects, a general manager and an accounts manager, were nabbed yesterday evening at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

They have been remanded for five days, the agency said.

The duo were suspected of receiving bribes from a supplier, between 2012 and 2016.

“They will be investigated under Section 17 (a) of the MACC Act 2009,” said MACC investigation director Norazlan Mohd Razali.

Under the act, the duo face a maximum 20 years’ jail and a fine of not less than five times the bribe amount or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted. – June 10, 2020
