UMNO sacks KJ; suspends Hishammuddin, Shahril

FORMER Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin and former Selangor UMNO chief Tan Sri Noh Omar have been sacked from UMNO while former defence minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein was among a number of politicians suspended from the party.

According to a statement issued on Friday night (Jan 27) following a party supreme council meeting, UMNO secretary-general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan said former health minister Khairy and Noh have been sacked for breaching party disciplinary rules.

Meanwhile, several others have been suspended for six years, including Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein and former UMNO information chief Shahril Hamdan.

Also suspended were former Tiram assemblyperson Datuk Maulizan Bujang, former Jempol MP Datuk Seri Mohd Salim Sharif and UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Dr Fathul Bari Mat Jahya.

Others who have been sacked include five party members from the Pasir Gudang division, nine from the Putrajaya division, two from the Tanjung Karang division, and 26 members from UMNO’s Pahang chapter.

“Among their wrongdoings are becoming independent candidates, candidates for parties other than Barisan Nasional (BN) and being involved in helping opponent parties during GE15,” Ahmad said.

Earlier this evening, Noh was suspended for six years, although he claimed that the party had agreed to his request to be given the boot instead.

It is understood that disciplinary action taken against the UMNO leaders is linked to alleged attempts to sabotage the party during GE15.

Meanwhile, Simpang Renggam MP and former Johor Menteri besar Datuk Seri Hasni Mohamed had been dropped as the Johor UMNO liaison committee chairperson.

According to news reports, Hasni is being replaced by UMNO vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who is also the Kota Tinggi MP. – Jan 28, 2023
