UMNO youth rejects PAS protest invite, opts for dialogue on urban renewal

UMNO Youth has firmly declined PAS’s invitation to join a protest against the Urban Renewal Act (URA), stressing that it prefers to focus on finding constructive solutions rather than engaging in political rhetoric.

UMNO Youth Exco Mohamad Aliff Hilmi said their approach prioritizes facts, discussions, and practical proposals to protect urban low-income groups.

“The UMNO Youth Movement has taken a firm stance to respectfully decline PAS’s invitation to join the protest rally against the Urban Renewal Bill (PSB) or URA, because our main focus is on finding effective solutions and not merely doing something half-heartedly or superficially,” he said.

Instead, UMNO will hold an Urban Renewal Convention on October 3, led by Vice President Johari Abdul Ghani, and has invited PAS to participate in dialogue for a more unified and effective effort.

“We wish to emphasize that the door to dialogue is always open. Therefore, we invite PAS to also be present at this convention so that our voices will be stronger, and efforts to reject matters that are detrimental to the people can be carried out in a more unified manner, with a more dignified and effective approach,” he added. —Sept 28, 2025
